The word ‘Fringe’ is of course a matter of perspective – both geographically and topically.  Clare Garden Festival Fringe wants to explore all areas for gardeners of any kind ...

HIGHLIGHT EVENT

mary reynolds'Beyond Gardening – Film & Expert Talks' at glór

The highlight event of the new Clare Garden Festival Fringe combines the award-winning garden film Dare to be Wild with expert talks, featuring Mary Reynolds discussing our relationship with the Earth, as explored in her book The Garden Awakening, and plantsman Ciaran Burke exploring the humorous side of gardening.

The feature-length romantic adventure film ‘Dare to be Wild’ tells the true story of Mary Reynolds, a modern-day heroine, and environmentalist Christy Collard, whose shared passion for the wild takes them from the green hills of Ireland, to arid Ethiopia, to the Chelsea Flower Show. Dare to be Wild won an Audience Award for best narrative feature at Dublin International Film Festival. Link to film trailer.

The evening at glór will kick off with plantsman and RHS tutor Ciaran Burke exploring the humorous side of gardening. Mary Reynolds will join the event to speak about our relationship with the Earth aligned to her new book The Garden Awakening. Link to Mary's Ted Talk.

Information and tickets from glor are available here.

This event is supported by Clare Arts Office.

SATURDAY 29th April

With our Fringe festival, we also want to highlight and support others in Clare and there are a lot of great things on this Saturday:

Irish Seed SaversVisit Irish Seed Savers

Seed Savers have set up a special tour for our Garden Festival visitors of their wonderful gardens at Capparoe Scarriff. April is of course a time for sowing and planting which is a lovely time to visit. A comprehensive guided walking tour of our 20 acre seed farm, through our organic orchards, mature seed gardens, woodlands and a visit to Ireland’s only public seed bank. This 1.5hr garden tour starting at 11am can be booked directly from their shop here.

Transition Clare are inviting to a People's Climate Event. This event is dedicated to coming together and showing we want climate action. It is especially poignant to come out in solidarity with the #peoplesclimate march in the US. Meet and join their parade from 1.30pm at the  O’Connell Monument walking to ButterMarket House on the Drumbiggle Road for a picnic.

Treat yourself to a Gardeners Dinner @ Rowan Tree Cafe Bar. See the full menu now here. Book directly with Rowan Tree Cafe Bar by calling them on 065 686 8669. www.rowantreecafebar.ie

SUNDAY 30th April

FRINGE at Clare Garden Festival

Clare Garden Festival has always aimed to be both a treat for gardeners and for all the family. Now we are underlining this by offering even more excitement for all ends of the spectrum with our new Fringe. Of course, if you look it from that perspective, you‘ll find that actually our festival day on the 30th April, already includes a lot that could be called Fringe and we always are keen for people to discover and explore all the hidden gems at our festival.... Pop-Up Gardens, Demos, Crafters, Archers, Botanical Arts...

MONDAY 01st May

Relax after a weekend filled of gardening and great events and join the Festival of Finn at their Lark at the Lake event. We are delighted to highlight this event here as we are this year on the same weekend. (This year our festival is falling on the May bank holiday with our Last Sunday in April but next year we will be as usual staying with our favourite Sunday... 29 April 2018 that is.)

This is our first ever Fringe, so we would love input and feedback, contact us if you would like to participate with a Fringe event. It would be super to grow the Fringe festival in the next years and we hope that gardeners in Clare and beyond will enjoy and support...
